|If These Wall Could Talk 2 with Ellen DeGeneres|
The latest movie project of Ellen DeGeneres was the HBO made-for-TV movie "If These Wall Could Talk 2".
The story: In three half-hour parts, which all take place in the same house, but in different decades, stories of lesbian women are told. The first part, set in the 1950s, is about a retired teacher (played by Venassa Redgrave) who loses the house she had lived in with her longtime companion. The second part is set in the 1970s is about sexual conflicts between lesbians and feminists on campus, starring Dawson Creek's Michelle Williams and Oscar-nominated Chloe Sevigny. The third is about a gay couple (played by Sharon Stone und Ellen DeGeneres) planning to have a baby. This "2000" part was written and directed by Anne Heche, and Ellen DeGeneres was an executive producer of all three parts. And like the original "If These Walls Could Talk" in 1996, which was a trilogy of stories about abortion, the sequel was written, produced and directed exclusively by women.
The shooting took place in the end of 1999, the movie premiered on March 5th, 2000 on the US pay TV station HBO. It had 5 million viewers, which is a quite good rating for a cable show, and got a lot of reviews, most of them were enthusiastic about the flick. The movie will be shown again and again for a few months after the premiere. The success of the second part makes it very likely that there will be a part 3 about another woman's issue, possibly domestic abuse.
On February 13, 2000 on the german TV channel TM3 in the show "Entertainment Tonight" they had a short piece on the making of "If These Walls Could Talk 2" including some short interview excerpts with Ellen DeGeneres, Anne Heche and Sharon Stone. It's available for download right here as an MPG-video-file, which can be played on every Windows95 system. But please notice, it's in german. The transcript of that piece can be found on the german language version of this page.
