| Since their college days, Ellen and Adam are living as room-mates, and when they finally decided that things couldn't go on this way, the was the beginning of a long and difficult process of trying to become more independent. Like when Ellen says to Adam: "The only thing that changed since you moved out is that my rent doubled and you're here more often than before". :-) An in such a close relation to someone the question arises if this could be more than friendship, but all attemps in this directed were not very successful. Adam was the only cast regular of the first season, who was nearly uneffected by all the changes in the show at the beginning of the second season - nearly, because according to the decision of some network executives, his beard had to go, to make him look tougher and younger. He spend most of the time to lament over the missed opportunities in life and to watch cable TV - if the show had been named Couch People like it was discussed at the beginning, Adam had become the star for sure.
