According to a survey in the german magazine TV Spielfilm in May 1995, "ALF" is the third popular cult series in Germany, even nine years after it's first german broadcast in the ZDF (Second German Televison) in 1988. So for 8,3% of the interviewed people, ALF is the personal favorite cult series.
And according to a representative Emnid-survey in August 1996, 21% of the asked people said ALF is their favorite Science-Fiction character! So he's the most popular SF character in Germany, even much more popular than E.T. (17%), Highlander (10%), Captain Kirk (10%), Mr. Spock (6%), the Terminator, Captain Picard or Superman (all 5%).
Finally, a survey from 1997 on behalf of the german TV magazine TV Movie says that ALF is on position number 5 on the list of Germany's most known TV stars. The result of that representative survey was that 85,7% of the german population know ALF! In comparison, No. #1 of that list is Horst Tappert, star of the german crime TV series "Derrick" (89%). But, that show has constantly been on TV for 25 years, and it is watched by up to 15 million viewers. ALF is only on now and then, it's "just" watched by 1 million viewers in the last time and no new episodes have been on produced in the last 8 years! So I think it is very impressing that ALF is still that popular.
That's all for now.
